Ortofon

Danish manufacturer Ortofon is the world’s largest manufacturer of moving magnet cartridges – they produce over half a million a year.

Ortofon started in the 1918 as FonoFilm, which developed a system for synchronising sound and pictures for the film industry.

In 1948 they developed the world’s first moving coil cartridge, and the company name was changed to Ortofon, which means “Pure Sound” in ancient Greek.
